Here’s the scoop: My fishing partner and I will be fishing in the 12th Annual Fishing To End Hunger Tournament on Saturday, October 5, 2024. The Fishing To End Hunger Tournament was established in 2013 as a fundraising event to support the efforts of The Outreach Program of Brainerd Lakes. Outreach BLA is in Nisswa, Minnesota. The tournament will be held on the Gull Lake Chain, with the launch/finale at Bar Harbor Supper Club in Lake Shore.
The Outreach Program of Brainerd Lakes (Outreach BLA) packages and distributes 10 different meals to local area food shelves, community meal programs, shelters, after school programs, etc. They pack 2 breakfast meals (Apple Oatmeal and Raisin Oatmeal). They pack 3 lunch/dinner pasta meals (Mac/Cheese, Tomato Basil Pasta, Minestrone Soup). They pack 3 lunch/dinner rice meals (Spanish Rice, Cheesy Rice, Beans & Rice). They also pack 2 desserts (Apple Cinnamon Rice and Raisin Rice Pudding). All the foods ONLY require 3-8 cups of boiling water to make. The packing of meals, and the distribution is facilitated by community volunteers. It only takes 8-10 people to pack on a line; and Outreach BLA can accommodate up to 5 lines of people packing at any one given time.
The mission at Outreach BLA is simple: Feed Families. Their vision is that 80-90% of the meals they package will stay in Minnesota; while the other 10-20% are being distributed for disaster relief and/or international distribution. Outreach BLA packs these meals for only $0.30/meal.
That is where you come in: I am fundraising to help support the mission of feeding families. I need your help – I’m asking you to contribute to my fundraising efforts. Your contribution (regardless of amount) will be utilized directly to purchase the ingredients to package meals. A donation of $10 allows Outreach BLA to pack 33 meals; a donation of $100 allows them to pack 333 meals. A donation of $250 allows Outreach BLA to package 833 meals. They have a goal (based on need) of packing 500,000+ meals in 2024. You – and I – together – we can help OutreachBLA feed people that truly will benefit from these meals.
